There is a pattern: acts of spectacular violence, predominantly by white men, are rarely termed “terrorist” even when all the evidence points in that direction.
Strong, strong roundup on the aftermath of the LAX shooting. Bringing up valid points, it is indeed true that “Based on available information, Ciancia’s alleged actions amount to a textbook case of “terrorism” according to the US government’s own definitions.” I’m going to reiterate the question again, why isn’t the media or the government calling the shooting “terrorism?” It is an important question that bears answering.

“… as I look around and see all the media here tonight I realize this is all just one big high school cafeteria. That’s all it is. Think about it : Fox is the jocks, MSNBC is the nerds, bloggers are the goths, NPR is the table for kids with peanut allergies, Al Jazeera is the weird foreign exchange student nobody talks to, and print media, I didn’t forget you, you’re the poor kid who died sophomore year in a car crash.”—Conan O’Brien, last evening at the White House Correspondents Dinner (via apoplecticskeptic)

If you read this in a book, you’d say the author went too far and the narrative was no longer believable:
If the gun advocates behind this year’s inaugural Gun Appreciation Day had hoped to use the day’s festivities to build support for their anti-regulation platform, they are going to have to wait another year.
A representative from Political Media, the group responsible for organizing Gun Appreciation Day, was not immediately available for comment.
This is real life.
It’s like the gun control talking points write themselves sometimes.
